Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), formerly known as electroshock, is a psychiatric treatment in which seizures are electrically induced in anesthetized patients for therapeutic effect. Today, ECT is most often recommended for use as a treatment for severe depression that has not responded to other treatment, and is also used in the treatment of mania and catatonia.

My personal ECT experiences
Hey everyone. Was curious about other people's experiences with Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) for treatment of their depression/disorders. I am an U.S. Army Veteran and I receive treatment for my depression, PTSD and bipolar disorder from my local VA Hospital. I personally have had at least 35 ECT treatments over the last few years. Without a doubt, I can say that I have noticed an improvement over where I was mentally/emotionally 2 years ago. I still have days where I have deep depression but there are fewer of these days. The only side effects I have experienced are soreness in my jaw and brief memory loss of events that occurred on the day before and day of the treatment.
I would really enjoy hearing about your ECT experiences, side effects and if it has helped you.

Welcome to the launch of my newest mental health blog - Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
I just want to take the opportunity to thank you for visiting my newest mental health blog on Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). First of all, I am not a doctor. However, I have been diagnosed as having bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I have received over 30 (probably closer to 40) ECT Treaments to date. So I will be posting from the perspective of a person suffering from mental disorders who has received numerous ECT Treatments and that has an interest in learning more about Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). I am also very interested in hearing ECT experiences (hopefully success stories) from others.
